What we need is one volunteer a week from now until school begins in September, to come in the morning or evening to water. We have all of the supplies at the school. If you are interested could you please email Robbie-Lynn with the week(s) you are willing to help. rl.nichol@gmail.com It is Potato Planting Time Every year Belfast students are given the opportunity to get their hands dirty with some real life learning. In the spring they plant potatoes in our school garden to be harvested in the fall. The potatoes are donated to the food bank and the project allows our students a genuine learning experience. Belfast School Council has agreed to help get our garden ready for planting in the last week of May. We will be spending an evening weeding the garden beds so that our students can get busy planting. If we have a group it won't take us long at all. Please email Robbie-Lynn for more information and to sign up. rl.nichol@gmail.com Belfast School Council Annual General Meeting Belfast School Council will be hold their Annual General Meeting June 19th at 7pm in the Library Commons at Belfast School. Lori Kariga, President, Belfast School Fundraising Society Important Upcoming Dates: Snacks in the office:
One of the ways we support our students is to provide healthy peanut free snack options for those students who have forgotten to bring a snack. Recently, we have noticed a steady increase for request for snacks in the office. We will continue to provide snacks however, we wanted to bring this to our parents attention that maybe it is time to pack a little more food in your student's lunch kit. We also wanted to thank our parents who have provided peanut free snacks to the school and we welcome anyone who would like to contribute to just drop them off at the office. Moving to Grade 1 - Coffee Talk: It is the time of the year that Kindergarten parents start to think about their child moving to grade 1. Grade one can be a bit of a transition for our kinders and parents alike. We invite all our kindergarten parents to join us for about an hour on May 24th at 1pm in the Learning Commons to discuss the changes they can be looking forward to and to answer common questions about how we teach grade 1 at Belfast. Included in this conversation will be a focus on multi-aged learning groups. RSVP! Please let us know if you are coming. Kindergarten Orientation is coming: Notifications have been sent out to parents of our new kindergarten parents about our Kindergarten orientation night on May 25. If you know anyone who is considering Belfast for kindergarten in 2017-18 please encourage them to come. Bikes & Scooter info: As the weather in Calgary is finally cooperating we have more and more students using the bike racks. We would like to remind you that student(s) should always be locking up their bikes & or scooters as the school cannot be responsible to replace any stolen property. Also CBE regulations do not permit bikes, scooters, skateboards and or rollerblades to be used on the school compound or property. Thank you in advance for your cooperation on this matter. Hi Belfast families & friends: The below is important events OR information that we want to share with you: Planning for Next Year: As we approach the end of the year we are encouraging parents to talk us about their plans for next year. Towards the end of May we will be starting to make decisions about classroom groups for the 2017-2018 school year. This is a very important and thoughtful process that happens over the course of weeks. Our teaching staff come together to discuss best fit for students in terms of learning style and do an amazing job each year of creating balanced and effective learning communities. We know that parents have perspectives about their own children that are important for us to know about. If you have information to share that would be helpful in setting your child up for success we ask that you share it with Ms. Holford in writing by May 15th. Because of the complexity of the task, we can’t guarantee that all requests will be met, but we will do our best to honour the spirit of each request and create the best possible situation for all students at Belfast School.
