Hi Belfast families and friends:
Please ask your children about their #belfastyday. We explored engineering challenges in family groups throughout the morning. It was a great day in our learning community.
We Care Club Update
We would like to let you know what we are working on over the next two months. If you don’t know, we are a group of Grade 5 and 6 students that volunteer our lunch hour once a week to learn about social issues and work to help people near and far. Recently, we reached our $10,000 goal, which allowed us to build a schoolhouse in Haiti! Now, we are working to support several different causes. Each cause has been researched and chosen by us based on what we feel is important.
February 13th and 14th - Flowers and Cards
The We Care Club will be selling handmade Valentines Day cards and flowers at lunchtime on Feb. 13th and 14th. Students can buy a card ($1) and/or a flower ($2) for a friend. We Care Club students will then deliver the “flower-grams” and cards to the recipients in the afternoon of the 14th. The money raised during this initiative will support The Calgary Humane Society.
“This is important to me because they help animals and find good homes for them.” - Ryleigh
February 28th - We Market
During the evening of February 28th, Belfast will be having our Residency Celebration. The Residency Celebration will give all students a chance to show off the learning they’ve been doing with our Artist in Residence, Sarah Smith. The We Care Club will be holding a We Market during this time. The Market will include some baked goods, snacks, and homemade craft items for you to purchase. The money raised during this initiative will buy school supplies for a school in Calvaire, Haiti that Mrs. Ayer and Ms. Dahl will be visiting over Spring Break.
“If they don’t have any supplies, they won’t be able to learn like we do. They deserve to learn.” - Sherleen
“The school needs supplies and I want the kids in Haiti to have a good experience like us.” - Rowan
We are looking for some families to donate baked goods. Please email Ms. Dahl at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able to help!
March 23rd and 24th - Art Raffle
In addition to donated items, every classroom at Belfast will create a collaborative art project that will be raffled off during Student Led Conferences on March 23rd and 24th. There will be a wide variety of unique items that you can win! The We Care Club is happy to partner with Parent Council on this initiative. The funds will support our school as well as The Make-A-Wish Foundation. Check out Parent Council’s website (http://belfastcouncil.weebly.com/fundraising) for additional information. Details coming soon.
