Hello Friends and Families of Belfast School
Our teaching teams have been collaborating on their off site activities for this year. There are a number of field trips and special events planned that require parent volunteers. If you would like to sign up to volunteer for some of these events please go to the appropriate link for your child’s grade. Teachers will confirm volunteers closer to the date of each trip. All CBE volunteers must have a valid police check to be allowed to volunteer. If you are unsure you can check with Kari in the office and she will look up whether we have a police record check for you. Please note that we cannot accommodate younger siblings on these trips.

IMPORTANT Parents Signing in at the office:
We continue to have front door access even though many schools have moved to locked doors, but we need parents to help us with this. We need to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We must insist that all parents who venturing past the main entrance, sign in. Sign in procedures are expected for all schools in the CBE. If you are coming in to drop off or pickup briefly, we will have a clip board available in the foyer. After attendance has been taken in classrooms we will require parents to check in with Mrs. Forrest. Even if you are coming in just for a moment we need you to sign in. Doing so helps us to ensure that we can keep students safe while maintaining our welcoming approach in our school. If you would prefer not to sign in we respectfully ask that you stay in the main foyer area and do not proceed to classrooms.
Dropping off students before the bell:
Please ensure that students who are dropped off at school before the 8:30 bell are dropped off on the playground. It is important in those few minutes before the bell that teachers have the time and ability to prepare for learning in their classrooms. Parents are welcome to drop in after school should they wish to check in with the teacher. If you are accompanying your child into the building before the bell please remain in the foyer until the bell rings. Please note: We will always bring students into the school in the case of extreme weather.
Halloween Costume Parade:
Our costume parade is a Belfast tradition and we hope this day will be fun for all of our students. Costumes are welcome on October 31st @ 10:00am. We ask that parents use their good judgement keeping in mind that we are a K-6 community and any costume that might be frightening to a kindergarten student may not be appropriate for our school. Students should not bring props that are weapons to school. The costume parade will be at 10am. Parents are welcome to join us.
School Wide Writing Assessments:
Next week, our students from grade 1, 2, 5 & 6 students will be involved in writing assessments. Belfast teachers do these writing assessments throughout the year to check in on student progress and to make plans for learning. It is an important way that we check to ensure that students are making progress compared grade level outcomes and considering the child’s developmental ability. If you have any questions about writing assessments please talk to your child’s teacher or contact the office.
All families are invited to Belfast’s family dance on Friday, October 28th, from 6:00pm - 7:30pm! Feel free to dress up - prizes for best costumes and dance moves! Cost is $5.00 per family (all children must have a responsible adult with them) at the door, and concession items will sell for $1.00 each. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go to finalizing the building of a school in Haiti initiative through the WeCARE club.
